Why Wild Sauna?

A wild sauna is a totally different experience than a normal leisure centre or indoor spa, which tend to be very dry and not in a great environment, which we find takes away from the experience.

We want you to experience the lovely wood smell, the steam hitting your face, the beautiful nature and people in Northern Ireland!

We provide a great way to socialise with family or friends, or relax and unwind in one of our less busy sessions.

If you haven’t tried the experience, you are really missing out!

Suvi

I’m Suvi from Finland where we love the outdoors, and of course the sauna!

I have been living in Northern Ireland for 10 years now and I really missed having a good sauna and wild swim in nature with my family and friends, and I believe this is one of the main reasons Finns are so happy.

I’m so excited to open that experience to other people in Northern Ireland and can’t wait to meet you all and let you experience my native culture.

Emmett

Hi, I’m Emmett and I’m from Northern Ireland.

I am at my happiest when in the outdoors hiking, camping, canoeing or travelling off the beaten track in my camper van.

I believe we all forget how precious our free time is and spend too much of it on our phones scrolling through mindless content when we could be connecting with nature and others, which would give us all the greater sense of happiness we are lacking.

Suvi introduced me to sauna about 8 years ago and I became addicted after feeling so good after each session.

I also love a good project and building something unusual, and with our joint love of sauna and socialising, it wasn’t long before The Wild Finn Sauna was under construction!

Ned

Hello, I’m Ned!

I’m from Northern Ireland and I’m 14, I like swimming, playing stick, walks and chewing on my bone.

I don’t like the sauna so much, it’s a bit warm for me! But I love meeting all the people that come along, if I’m not too busy having a nap.

Sauna Build

For us the whole key to the build was to have a quality traditional Finnish style sauna, with great "löyly" (steam).

The sauna started life as a 20-year-old horse box which we and our friends lovingly crafted into an authentic Finnish style sauna.

We researched the project for several months checking regulations and sourcing the best quality materials, and being somewhat of perfectionists the project took a lot longer than expected.

The sauna is very efficient being fully insulated with specialist insulation from Finland, and the wood cladding is hardened black alder that gives that classic woody sauna smell when lit!

It’s heated by a wood fired sauna stove which was manufactured in Finland.

We are not all sauna heroes like Suvi and the native Finns, as for most of us it takes a while to build up comfort levels with the heat. We have designed the sauna with different seat heights to accommodate all, from just starting out to the high heat lovers.

The lower benches and closest to the door are a milder option, with the top seats being the warmest.

The sauna seats 7 comfortably, or 8 at a squeeze.
